Advice for Candidates
First impressions count, and you only get one chance to make them – so make sure your application is up to scratch. The person reading your CV probably has a limited time to consider your application. Your chances of success are dramatically improved if you consider the following:
Readability is critical, present the important information clearly and try to keep it to 1-2 pages.
Present your employment history in reverse chronological order.
Keep personal information to a minimum, but make sure what matters is included – full name, contact details, nationality & driving license details are essential.
Take some time on its appearance, but keep it organised and professional. Avoid stylised fonts, graphics or coloured backgrounds.
Use bullet points instead of long sentences & paragraphs.
Tailor your CV to the vacancy you’re applying for, include a covering letter if appropriate.
Don’t include a photograph.
Don’t write in the third person. You can write your CV in the first person but you don't really need to use 'I', 'he' or 'she' in a CV because its use is implied.
Make sure you use job titles employers will recognise.
Don’t exaggerate. Highlight your key achievements but be honest, and don’t include any failures.
